Festive shopping spree lands man in prison

8:40am Friday 27th January 2012

Deciding to steal Christmas presents for his family landed a Truro father back in prison.

At Truro Magistrates' Court, Darren Young, 24, of Newton Road, Troon, pleaded guilty to stealing articles worth £189.54 from Asda and possessing heroin.

The heroin was only a small amount worth £3.50, prosecutor Alison May said. His previous convictions included burglary and theft.

Curtis Lewis, for Young, said he would be recalled to prison for 28 days because of what he had done.

Somebody had bought him heroin, and he succumbed to smoking it. His shoplifting spree, when he took fragrances and CD, was to provide Christmas presents for his family as he had no money.

Young was sent to prison for 21 days.
