New lifeboat station open to the public
12:50pm Thursday 26th January 2012
The new Lizard lifeboat station will be open for the public to look around tomorrow to celebrate the RNLI’s SOS Day of fundraising.
Between 1pm and 3pm visitors can see the work that has taken place at Kilcobben Cove, where the station has been under construction since May 2010.
Pupils from Landewednack Primary School will be baking cakes to sell to visitors and the year six pupils will be on hand, with members of the lifeboat crew, to show people around the station and the new Tamar class all-weather lifeboat Rose.
The new station has been built in the cove on the site of the old boathouse.
Currently the lift is being refurbished and the Lizard RNLI is unable to guarantee it will be available to take any disabled visitors down to the station.
Anyone unable to walk down and back up the 200 steps should contact the Lizard lifeboat press officer Bernice Putt on 07896 522176 to check if the lift is working.
